AFTER 10 YEARS THEY FOUND THE HD VERISON OF THIS SONG

Huh, wow. I remember when this show was running, I liked it, but my sister was obsessed with it. She told me once that she always felt bad for Ember, and I asked why. She told me that Ember was a ghost, so that means that she had to have died at some point, and when you listened to the lyrics of the song, you can put it together. 

It was her theory that Ember had loved a man she met, but that love wasn’t returned. In her mind, the exact cause of Ember’s demise (And I don’t know how much this sticks with the episode) was that she’d been distraught about this, and while driving the tour van for the band to a gig it crashed. My sister’s theory was that the van caught fire and none of the band members could get out, hence the fire-related motif of her ghost. Listening to it again, and all the mentions of ashes and burnt trees…that seems oddly fitting. 

In anycase, she also thought, that Ember’s plan to make everyone love her, stemmed from the fact she could never get the love she wanted in life. She could never make it big, or make the person she loved love her in return. She wanted people to know her name, to remember her, but since she never got that in life, she tried again as a ghost.

A bit macabre I’ll admit, but hearing the song fully makes me think she wasn’t far off the mark….
